Synopsis
From a few personal diaries and letters that allow us to hear the voices of German civilians, mostly women, through the remarkable images of amateur films shot over days and seasons, Jérôme Prieur’s film shows how World War II was lived in Germany far from the front, before the country became a besieged citadel.
These individual destinies plunge us into the heart of the country brought to heel by the Nazis, into the everyday chronicle of the 1938 -1945 catastrophe, from the collective euphoria of the first conquests to the deluge of the Allied bombs, submission to anger, twilight to disaster for Germany.
