Balladur – Chirac, Lies and Betrayals

Category Society
Duration 52 min

Synopsis
In 1995, France experienced the most unexpected and turbulent presidential elections of the 5th Republic. Competing with the socialist candidate Jospin, two conservative party members fought tooth and nail: Jacques Chirac vs. Edouard Balladur. It was a fierce, intra-party combat in which the right wing, in a rare moment of its history, nearly tore itself apart. This gripping fight, followed closely by the French each day, deeply affected the country’s political life for many years – and, in fact, its effects are still felt today.
